If Voting Changed Anything, They’d Make It Illegal
In right-wing circles, the success of Dutch nationalist and anti-Islam campaigner Geert Wilders has been trumpeted to all corners of the Earth. Wilders, who lives under 24 hour a day police protection due to a certain demographic which apparently hasn’t heard that the Dutch are famously tolerant and open-minded, is decent enough as far as politicians go, and he obviously has guts.
However, his story simply illustrates two general points that I wish to bang you over the head with once again.
First, ethno-nationalists will never constitute a majority of the people of that ethnicity in this liberal age. The ideals of liberalism have simply become too wound with the soul of our people to expect more than a committed minority on our side.
Let what this means sink in: when we act, we will be doing so in the minority with most of our own people leading the fight against us. Thankfully, there are lots of lampposts.
Second, democratic politics is a dead-end loser. For the reason, see point one above.
As for the Kingdom of the Netherlands?
Let’s let the newswire tell the story.
April 17 (Reuters) – The Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) lost its lead over the Christian Democrats (CDA) in a poll late on Friday, presaging a fierce battle between Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, the CDA leader, and new PvdA leader Job Cohen in June elections.
Labour, which took the poll lead a month ago after Cohen announced his PvdA leadership, saw the number of seats it is likely to win fall by three to 30, tying with the CDA, which gained one seat from 29 last week, the Synovate Politieke Barometer survey showed.
The Netherlands government fell on Feb. 20 in a dispute over the future of the Dutch mission in Afghanistan and elections will be held on June 9.
The political landscape has changed since March 12, when Labour leader Wouter Bos stepped down in favour of Cohen, who was then mayor of Amsterdam. In preference polls for prime minister, Cohen draws about three times the support of his nearest rivals, including Balkenende.
Yup. That’s right folks. For all the endless talk about Wilders and a backlash, the next Prime Minister of the Netherlands will be the Jewish socialist, Job Cohen.
Feel free to write your favorite mainstream conservative and rub their faces in that. If anything, it may make you feel better.
