On the disturbing parallels I see between our responses to 9/11 and COVID-19, and why many restrictions, particularly on children, could last indefinitely. https://t.co/SUMjfkE33J— Richard Hanania (@RichardHanania) July 30, 2021
The invention of vaccines has made what to do about COVID-19 an easy moral problem. It’s rare you get a problem where close to 100% of the burden falls upon people who make their own choice to assume a risk. If we can’t leave people to their own devices here, when can we? pic.twitter.com/ckOSTTwo8j— Richard Hanania (@RichardHanania) July 30, 2021

Congress should increase the income tax rate on taxpayers who are unvaccinated, and who have no legitimate religious or medical reason to be unvaccinated, to 99 percent.— Ian Millhiser (@imillhiser) July 29, 2021
This could be done through reconciliation.
Doocy vs. Biden ?— Curtis Houck (@CurtisHouck) July 29, 2021
Doocy: You said if you were fully vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask.
Biden: I didn’t say that.
Doocy: You did.
Doocy: In May, you made it sound like the vaccine was the ticket to lose the mask forever.
Biden: That was true at the time. pic.twitter.com/0ITF0GZZqM
All they talk about are “cases” now. They don’t talk about deaths because deaths are way down and will stay down. All they have are cases but who cares about cases if the vast majority are asymptomatic or mild? These damned tyrants just can’t let go of this. Pres. Biden calls on states to pay people $100 to get the COVID jab:— Breaking911 (@Breaking911) July 29, 2021
“I know that paying people to get vaccinated might sound unfair to folks who’ve gotten vaccinated already. But here’s the deal: If incentives help us beat this virus, I believe we should use them.” pic.twitter.com/vRC9f9Frrz
I’ve never cared about vaccines or flu shots.
It is a huge issue for some people on both sides. My simple view of the matter has always been that every adult is responsible for their own health. Those who want to get vaccinated should be able to get vaccinated. Those who don’t want to get vaccinated have that right. COVID vaccines are now widely available. I don’t see why it is such a big deal in the context of all our other problems.
If you can’t get off your ass and go down to Walgreen’s and get “the jab,” why on earth should anyone else care more about your health than you do? Why should vaccinated people be forced to wear masks? This makes no sense whatsoever. This should have been over when the COVID vaccines became widely available and deaths from COVID flatlined into the summer. The reason it isn’t over is because COVID was the issue that put Joe Biden in the White House. The Democrats can’t let go of the issue because all the other issues which are popping up – illegal immigration, violent crime, gas prices, inflation, etc. – are so unfavorable for them. They also can’t resist the temptation to mind and meddle in other people’s business. This is why they have the government censoring the internet and “the intelligence community” spying on your phone.
Is it worth it? It isn’t even close to worth it when the people who are actually at risk of dying from COVID, which is to say, sick and elderly people have mostly been vaccinated. Forcing vaccinated students to wear masks and submit to weekly COVID tests has nothing to do with “science.” The same is true of forcing young and physically fit people in the military to be vaccinated. It is nothing but a power trip. Cases of the Delta variant are irrelevant. If deaths from COVID have dropped to a negligible level, it is simply no longer a crisis. It is just an excuse to bully people and force them to jump through endless hoops.
Once again, the crisis is over when the dying stops, which is what Joe Biden himself was saying less than two months ago. The ballgame is over. There is no justification for dragging this out.
Note: Ben Domenech is right. This has left the realm of being a health concern and is now nothing but pure culture war and politics.
