This is all Donald Trump has been allowed to do as president. He has been nothing but a rubber stamp for everything the establishment wants.
“Washington (CNN) – President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act into law, enacting tough sanctions on China for its crackdown in Hong Kong.
“I signed these bills out of respect for President Xi, China, and the people of Hong Kong,” Trump said in a personal signing statement. “They are being enacted in the hope that Leaders and Representatives of China and Hong Kong will be able to amicably settle their differences leading to long term peace and prosperity for all.”
Pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong have long urged American lawmakers to approve the legislation. …”
“Beijing “strongly opposes” the European Union making irresponsible accusations about Hong Kong affairs and warned foreign governments not to interfere in the city’s affairs.
Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, made the remarks at a press conference on Tuesday, a day after the European Union released a highly critical annual report on Hong Kong.
“We call on the European Union to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs,” she said. …”
Imagine if China was trying to interfere in the internal affairs of the United States or the European Union. The political establishment would be having a meltdown. These same people have no problem whatsoever meddling in the internal affairs of other countries all over the world.
“WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Trump on Wednesday signed tough legislation that would impose sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong officials responsible for human rights abuses in Hong Kong, expressing support for pro-democracy activists in the territory and most likely angering China as the two countries negotiate ending their trade war.
“I signed these bills out of respect for President Xi, China and the people of Hong Kong,” Mr. Trump said in a statement on Wednesday. “They are being enacted in the hope that leaders and representatives of China and Hong Kong will be able to amicably settle their differences leading to long-term peace and prosperity for all.”
The White House had previously refused to say whether the president would sign the legislation, which Congress overwhelmingly approved during a sensitive time for the administration. …
Because the bill, in theory, has the support of a veto-proof majority in Congress, it could have been enacted into law even if Mr. Trump had vetoed it. “
Tax cuts … signed that.
Banking deregulation … got that.
Jerusalem embassy … got that done too.
Syria withdrawal … not happening.
Conservative judges (who will issue nothing but pro-business decisions) … check.
Military buildup … check.
Criminal justice reform … got that done.
I’m not saying it is entirely his fault. He is not even really the president.
Since the beginning, the story of the Trump administration has been how Conservatism, Inc. has controlled policy whether it has been through staffing the executive branch or through its power in Congress and because of that “America First” has been nothing but business as usual. President Hillary Clinton or Jeb Bush would have also signed this bill.
Note: This was Sen. Marco Rubio’s bill.
