Gee, I’m sitting here wondering why The Great POTATUS didn’t decide to launch these measures either right at the beginning of his Administration, or perhaps around last Easter when the first Central American caravan wound its way through Mexico into the United States.
Oh, that’s right.
Nothing was actually going to happen, mainly due to the fact that these invasive creatures are already earmarked by big business and big agriculture for jobs that will further increase economic inequality among our stagnated working class.
The U.S. government cut aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras on Saturday after President Donald Trump blasted the Central American countries for sending migrants to the United States and threatened to shutter the U.S.-Mexico border.
A surge of asylum seekers from the three countries have sought to enter the United States across the southern border in recent days. On Friday, Trump accused the nations of having “set up” migrant caravans and sent them north.
Trump said there was a “very good likelihood” he would close the border this week if Mexico did not stop immigrants from reaching the United States. Frequent crossers of the border, including workers and students, worried about the disruption to their lives the president’s threatened shutdown could cause.
At a rally on the border in El Paso, Texas, Democratic presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke denounced Trump’s immigration policies as the politics of “fear and division.”
A State Department spokesman said in a statement it was carrying out Trump’s directive by ending aid programs to the three Central American nations, known as the Northern Triangle.
The department said it would “engage Congress in the process,” an apparent acknowledgement that it will need lawmakers’ approval to end funding that a Congressional aide estimated would total about $700 million.
Two important things here.
First, this $700 million is really a drop in the bucket when all foreign aid is considered – we send much more to Israel, for example, on a yearly basis.
And second, I would like to be fair here and just remind everyone that Blumpf, while a useless fool, is not the only one to blame for this steaming dumpster fire of a nation.
Much of the blame also lies with Congress and GOP Conservatism as it exists today.
These corrupt dolts oppose anything proposed by the Left as “Socialist” by knee-jerk reaction, and would rather screech about “muh Constitutional principles” than aid a strong Executive Branch in fixing what has led us to the brink of destruction.
Literally – these folks have turned the Constitution into a holy document, and would rather see everything go up in flames while defending “checks and balances.”
It should be noted that something relatively similar occurred during the Late Republican Period of Ancient Rome, and eventually led to a century of civil war, unrest, famine, proscriptions, and the end of an era.
New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called Trump’s order a “reckless announcement” and urged Democrats and Republicans alike to reject it.
Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Friday that the United States was paying the three countries “tremendous amounts of money,” but received nothing in return.
I think most of those who matter are now off the Trump Train forever, but I need to remind everyone that this declaration is nothing more than a gust of hot air from the President.
Congress will likely stall this proposal, odds are high that nothing further will occur, and even if we see some sort of posturing along the southern border, it’ll be equivalent to the shrieks about caravans both last year and earlier this year.
Again, electioneering propaganda meant to shore up support among the hemorrhaging MAGA base that will eventually devolve into letting in hundreds of thousands more once the news cycle moves towards something else on the horizon.
