The Trump Budget

Meet the new MAGA “populist nationalism”:

“For example, the budget would cut $554 billion from Medicare spending over 10 years.

Medicare is the federal program that provides health benefits to older Americans, and more than 55 million people used the program last year …

The proposal also would make changes to Medicaid, the health program for lower-income Americans that is funded by the federal government and states. It would create a “market-based health-care grant” that could fund programs in addition to the traditional Medicaid program, a change that would lower Medicaid spending by about $250 billion over 10 years.

One program that would face the biggest reduction is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which is a version of food stamps run by the Agriculture Department. The White House proposes cutting $214 billion from the program over 10 years, although Congress often fights about changing SNAP and rarely has enacted changes. …”

In substance, it happens to be virtually identical to what used to be known as … drumroll … mainstream conservatism. Huge tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. Entitlement cuts for the poor and working class. Welfare as far as the eye can see for the Pentagon and Israel.

“This budget proposes taking away food assistance from millions of low-income Americans — and on the heels of a tax cut that favored the wealthy and corporations,” said Stacy Dean, president for food assistance policy at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. “It doesn’t reflect the right values.” …

On health care for low-income Americans, Trump’s budget calls for cutting federal Medicaid funding by $250 billion over the next 10 years, as the administration envisions passing a law “modeled closely” on a Senate Republican proposal that failed last fall to repeal the Affordable Care Act. …”

It also ends the student loan debt forgiveness program:

“Higher education faces massive changes in President Trump’s spending plan released on Monday.

The proposal would sharply curtail income-based loan repayment plans, scratch the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, embolden the government to go after students who don’t pay their loans and cut funding for federal work study in half.

Changes to loans would apply to borrowing after July 1, 2019, not including those loans provided to borrowers to finish their current education.

The budget would eliminate subsidized loans. Some 5.7 million students had subsidized loans in the 2016-2017 academic year, according to Mark Kantrowitz, a student loan expert. …”

Not sure where this will this go. Probably down another Middle Eastern rathole.

This will go nowhere in Congress.

It is, however, instructive. If the Republicans had the votes in Congress, they would simply be doing more things for their donors like entitlement reform. It further shreds the image that Steve Bannon cultivated of Donald Trump as a “populist nationalist.” The mask is off now.

  1. none of the cuts will happen. They never do.

Trumpenthal is going to match or exceed Obama’s deficits.

Which, from our viewpoint, is good: more pressure on the

    (((debtbuck)))

  2. The mask was always off. Its just that people WANTED to BELIEVE no matter what was insisting it all was a lie to begin with.

This same shit happens every time.

Smart people are hoodwinked every time.

Then regurgitate AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN…

    • Okay, the democratic candidate was beyond detestable, who else could we have voted for other than Trump? He’s turning out to be a complete shit, but the alternative was worse. I can see now that this system just does not work, something else will have to arise to replace it. It was nice while it lasted, probably up to the middle of the 19th Century, but it’s failing big time now.

  3. If the Republicans weren’t controlled opposition they would never propose this idiocy. The Republican party could win every election if they became a populist party that appealed to white people. Even George Lincoln Rockwell knew that white people don’t want their benefits gutted. (After all, if you’ve been paying taxes your whole life why would you want to see your social security screwed with?)

  4. Backstabbing scumbag trump and his jew daughter are actually flushing us
down the toilet way faster than the murderous ckunt klinton could ever had.
There would have been a rally against every move, just like the vast lack
of compliance with the new state gun laws.

We would have been much closer to a breakup of the unsustainable fusa.

And I might have lived my last days seeing a return to the wonderful land
that I was a child in. Time to read more 1850s history….

  5. NO ONE is as much as ignorant schmuck as El Crapo is…….

Death to the boomers and the White middle class as we near retirement, eh?

How about death to the Traitor Drumpf?
    I’m calling a spade a spade.

And WE have guns, ammo, and the means to start a boomer revolution. Just saying…

    • I’m rather amazed at this boomer hate idiocy. Does anyone really think that we people of the post war generation had any information available about what was going on, let alone any control over events? I’d say 99% of us just went about our lives as every other generation did before us, getting married, having children, working, etc. These people also ignore the fact that to a great extent boomers are keeping this pathetic economy going to a great extent, as well as helping out their children and grandchildren. I’m sick of this stupid blame game, wasting time pointing fingers at people who are older simply because they think we’re weak. Well, as you say Fr. John, we do have the guns and ammo. It’s past time to stop whining about events that cannot be changed since they are long past and start concentrating on how to try to save our race.

  6. Trump and Bannon were both essential to each other. If Trump would grow his balls back , he would push for a Bannon return. I don’t think he’s afraid to do it, he’s just brainwashed by the Establishment surrounding him
