Trump Administration Moves To Massively Expand Offshore Drilling

In most cases, I am not opposed to this:

“WASHINGTON — The Trump administration said Thursday it would allow new offshore oil and gas drilling in nearly all United States coastal waters, giving energy companies access to leases off California for the first time in decades and opening more than a billion acres in the Arctic and along the Eastern Seaboard.

The proposal lifts a ban on such drilling imposed by President Barack Obama near the end of his term and would deal a serious blow to his environmental legacy. It would also signal that the Trump administration is not done unraveling environmental restrictions in an effort to promote energy production.

While the plan puts the administration squarely on the side of the energy industry and against environmental groups, it also puts the White House at odds with a number of coastal states that oppose offshore drilling …”

Oil industry leaders cheered the reversal, calling it long overdue.

“I think the default should be that all of our offshore areas should be available,” said Thomas J. Pyle, president of the American Energy Alliance. “These are our lands. They’re taxpayer-owned and they should be made available.”

The big exception is Florida.

I agree with Rick Scott. I don’t like seeing the offshore oil rigs off Dauphin Island in Alabama and wouldn’t want to see them in Florida. I couldn’t care less though if there was offshore drilling off the coast of Virginia and North Carolina, California and especially the Arctic.

Note: This expansion of offshore drilling is another example of how business gets what it wants under Republican administrations – deregulation, tax breaks – while populist promises are shelved. This is unlikely to have any big immediate impact due to low oil prices anyway.

  1. The Environmental Movement is anti-White. These SJW types don’t dare say anything to, or try to regulate, the Chinese. They’re the biggest polluters in the World. After them, Nigger Africa is responsible for the bulk of the garbage in the ocean. Saying anything to them is pointless.

They just go after industry in White countries. Even though Western industry has greatly reduced pollution to a fraction of China and Africa.

    • And yet it’s funny – Whites have proven to be the only people on the face of the earth able to actually preserve the environment.

Without us, hundreds of thousands of species would already be extinct, the atmosphere would be as clogged with filth as downtown Beijing, and trash would pile up like something out of Idiocracy.

  2. I fully support producing petroleum from whatever source there is, all along the Gulf Coast and East Coast too. I’d like a new, modern refinery is every southern state. This would assist in our secession from the Leviathan State in Foggy Bottom.

My wife and I made trips to Santa Barbara for medical conferences, sometimes down Highway One along the Pacific coast. When I saw the oil platforms, which aren’t far from shore, they represented jobs and wealth. At night they’re lighted, appearing as anchored ships.

    I loved seeing them.

  3. Remember that massive oil spill that happened off the gulf of Mexico back in 2010 that killed a bunch of dolphins and other fish and is still causing deformities to this day? Best part is no one went to prison for it but we need get an apology from BP! Basically we treated them like three year old children who accidentally spilled milk on the carpet.

    • The problem wasn’t with BP, it was the US government’s requirement for them to drill in very deep water AND limiting BP’s legal liability to no more than $25 billion.

Again, all of the BP spill can be laid at the feet of the US government.

  4. Why the opposition to oil platforms in Florida and Alabama?

Oil platforms have been in the Santa Barbara channel and Gulf Coast for over 50 years. As another poster said, they create well paying jobs without really damaging the environment.

  5. About 5 years ago, oil flowing into Cushing, OK, was increasing.
Canada and US drillers were producing more…
The price for gasoline in the heartland was coming down!

So, the rooster-sucking oil companies figured out a way to
    keep prices up…
They reversed a pipeline that was importing crude from the Gulf…
So that the cheap US crude could be sold overseas for lots more $$$.

So gas pumps in Indiana were competing with gas pumps in London and Paris.

This new oil boom will result in bigger profits for the banksters and oil billionaires.

You will never see a break in diesel, propane or gasoline here in the jewsa.

    • In order for oil shale to be extracted per barrel prices must be at least $60.00, right now the price is between $65-67.00 per barrel, so the shale extraction is in high gear.

The actual price per barrel set in the fiat dollar aren’t particularly meaningful, it’s no more expensive than it was in 1950, maybe earlier when you factor in inflation.

As for oil corporations, I like that they exist. I can’t mine petroleum myself, don’t know how and wouldn’t know how to refine it if I could mine it. That’s why oil corporations, which have among the lowest profit margins among corporations, are just fine.

I suggest learning more about economics and read less about communism.

In Paris, Tx, gas is $2.15 a gallon.

When I think of Cushing, I think of Deep Rock Oil company and their famous fleet of tank cars.
