Politico, a bastion of establishment-friendly, Leftist commentary, has a surprisingly objective feature article on Patrick Buchanan. One of the pictures that accompanies the article shows him holding a revolver, seated in a chair in front of a portrait of General Robert E. Lee. The entire article is worth reading, for it re-caps Buchanan’s fascinating career and pioneering campaigns that advocated the “America First” platform upon which Donald Trump won the White House last November. It avoids the name calling (racist, xenophobe, bigot, etc.) that characterizes most mainstream political commentary in the USA. And it gives a fair analysis of the paleo-conservative’s rejection of globalism and Third World immigration.
The most interesting part of the lengthy article though is contained in the frank admission that “it may be too late for the nation he was trying to save.” Author Tim Alberta writes of Pat’s view:
[E]ven if Trump delivers on the loftiest of his promises, Buchanan fears it will be too little, too late. Sweeping change was needed 25 years ago, he says, before thousands of factories vanished due to the North American Free Trade Agreement, before millions of illegal immigrants entered the country, before trillions of dollars were squandered on regime change and nation-building.
He’s not unlike the countless Trump voters I met across the country in 2016, many of them older folks yearning for a return to the country of their youth, a place they remember as safer, whiter, more wholesome, more Christian, more confident and less polarized. The difference is that Buchanan refuses to indulge in the illusion that a return to this utopia of yesteryear is even possible. Economically and demographically and culturally, he believes, the damage is done.
“We rolled the dice with the future of this country,” he tells me. “And I think it’s going to come up snake eyes.”
This is what Southern Nationalists and many others of the Alt-Right have been saying for quite some time. We can not go back to the 1950s. Even if all further Third World immigration, both legal and illegal, were halted today – which is not going to happen under even the most positive scenario possibly imaginable – Whites would still become a minority in the USA in the near future. That means that the United States will surely become the sort of Leftist, overtly anti-White state that we all fear. Without dramatic demographic change the USA simply will not survive much longer in any recognizable form.
That is not to say that Trump can’t do good things for us. He certainly can. He can delay our coming minority status, buying us some time. He can help tear down political correctness. He can move people in a more identitarian direction. But ultimately, our salvation as a people and culture lies outside of the current political system. Pat recognizes this. And thankfully Alberta is honest enough to present Buchanan’s views in an objective manner for the public to consider.
I disagree with him. I think America has the best chance of any white country, especially Europe or Canada. Balkanization will happen. There is still hope.
Pat’s 100% right. The best we can hope for is separate nations. The 48 states will not hold together as one continuous unit. Of course radical things could happen and change all that but I see balkanization as the future

If what Pat is saying is true – I agree with him 100% – we need to start asking ourselves what the best options are for achieving this separation.
Can it be done through the voting booth, or will the process be so slow and arduous that we’ll end up browned out before the process is complete?

There were/are examples when nations managed to roll back the clock on the diversity, but it was always against Europeans, as far as I remember (the only exception to this rule being the reconquista on Iberian peninsula – this of course happened 500 years ago). Now, our future looks very bleakly. Especially with todays means of transport and communication, everything now happens on the global stage.
I think we are facing some very unpleasant things already. The U.S has two to three million people in prison, God knows how many on parole, 95 million out of the workforce, apparently the majority of the world’s drug addicts, way too many suicides. the debts may already by at unsustainable levels, and who knows what will happen if the Russians and Chinese make good on their efforts to replace the dollar as world’s reserve currency.
I believe what we’re facing is unsustainable, but it’s hard to see exactly how it all plays out. Like many on the alt right, I don’t care about the big cities, the east coast, or California, it stopped being white territory 30 years ago.

Don’t have all the details of Buchanan’s ancestry, but long ago I read an online comment that concluded with something like “and thus [Buchanan] is neither Irish nor Irish Catholic as those terms are ordinarily used in the United States.” The commenter’s point seemed to be that Buchanan’s Catholicism was on his mother’s side, which was German, and that his father was Scots-Irish (as was that other famous American Buchanan, President James). The Googling I’ve done since I read your comment gives me the impression that that—if I’ve remembered it correctly—was not entirely accurate, since the father seems to have been both Irish and Scots-Irish and maybe Catholic himself.
Though Buchanan’s mother was from Pennsylvania, his father was Virginia-born and had two ancestors who fought for the Confederacy. Obviously, that leaves open the possibility that, as you say, Buchanan is a blowhard.

A good analogy of our situation could be that of an Australian bushfire. The whole area goes up as a result of overgrowth, heat and mismanagement. BUT green shoots begin appearing in the aftermath. It will take a near death experience or war for us to finally pull together. But we will win, start fresh and have our nation’s and culture back.
