Ross Douthat in The New York Times pleas with conservatives to lose the election:

“It is a hard thing to accept that some elections should be lost, especially in a country as divided over basic moral premises as our own.   1. Frum makes me think of Lawrence Auster. Would Larry Auster have gone the route of Frum if he was still alive? Would he have argued that we must vote Hillary to “save the Republic” despite years of arguing against “liberalism?”

          • Thanks, Timber. When I Googled “Characters of the Inquisition,” I saw references to those other Walsh books, about Philip II and Queen Isabella. I’ll be giving those a look, too. It’s great that you appreciate history enough to have a favorite historian.

            Well, of course you’re right that the history, here in Philadelphia, goes back a little bit farther than the history in your area; but still, the history in your area is significant. Below is a four-picture graphic I assembled after you and I discussed the Federal undertakings in the Tennessee Valley and on the Columbia River. It demonstrates a remark I once encountered: “World War I was the chemists’ war. World War II was the physicists’ war.” At the upper left is an abandoned nitrate mine–or saltpeter mine–in the Atacama Desert, in Chile. Until the development of the nitrogen-fixing process by that chemist Haber, the saltpeter in that area was very important for gunpowder–and was of limited quantity. As I’ve mentioned, the Wilson Dam, which is under construction in the picture at the upper-right, was started in World War I, to provide power for that process.

            By the time World War II got started, of course, the atom had been understood and thus nuclear weapons had become possible: The weapons of the chemists had given way to the weapons of the physicists.

            The women in the picture at the lower-left are at the Oak Ridge facility, where the Tennessee Valley Authority’s hydroelectric power was used to obtain fissile uranium for the Manhattan Project. In the picture at the upper right, an atomic reactor of the Hanford Site, in your own state, of Washington, is under construction. The Hanford Site was powered by electricity from the Grand Coulee Dam, on the Columbia, and produced the plutonium of the A-bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki. Those two Federal projects–on the Tennessee and Columbia Rivers–culminated in mushroom clouds.

            We have what is called the “down wind’ers”here in Washington state.When that was going on ,the down wind’ers farms and ranches were affected.
            3 legged animals,babies,2 headed etc.giant pumpkins etc.and a lot of illness.If you would like to read about that ,I believe the book was called “Atomic Harvest” that I read.

            Well, yes, being half-Irish myself, I suppose I do have to love the Irish. Via Google, I’ve now seen and read about that Mary statue–Our Lady of the Rockies–of which I’d never heard. It looks pretty impressive up there. Some years ago, at a genealogy website or something, a cousin of mine came into contact with a distant relative on his side of which I’m not a part. The relative was a descendant of an Irishman who’d come to work in Butte, back in the copper days, if I’m remembering this correctly. I figure that gives me a slight and indirect connection to that part of American history.

            Hadn’t heard of Grant’s time out your way either. It turns out the place where he was stationed was Ft. Vancouver, which is now a National Historic Site. In the graphic below, you’ll see its location, on a map, plus two views, from 1845 and 1859.

            Probably, you know that Astoria, Oregon, which is also visible on the map below, started as a fort of John Jacob Astor’s fur company. Well, Astor got that started less than a decade after Lewis and Clark wrapped up their expedition with a trip down the Columbia, and it made him his fortune. I guess that shows that the history out your way goes back pretty far.

            It will be some time, I see, before I’ll have absorbed and looked into all of these remarks you’ve now made, about Louis Riel, John Jacob Astor, and so on. Even the little bit of research I’ve just now done has revealed to me that I was incorrect in thinking, as I’ve long thought, that the making of Astor’s fortune began with his venture in Oregon. I see now that he had already made quite a bit of money in the fur trade before he made that particular move. That was something I began to realize when you mentioned Jefferson, whose presidencies predated the Oregon venture. I appreciate, as usual, your having alerted me to many interesting facts and subjects.

            In the third picture, someone at the top of the museum steps is imitating the “Rocky” moment. On a night some years ago, I saw someone doing that while I was there with a cousin and his wife, from San Francisco. My cousin’s wife turned to me and said, “I guess that goes on a lot.”

    I’ve often noticed that white Liberalism is really just a class war by privileged whites against un-privileged whites.     I grew up in an integrated community in the 70s, and most racial violence was black on white and black on non-black for the simple reason that blacks are more muscled and more aggressive. Look at sports. Blacks dominate cuz they are bigger/stronger, and what happens in sports also happens in schools, streets, buses, and etc. I have NO illusions about racial differences and racial violence since I saw so much of it close up.

    But I understand she doesn’t care since she’s a virtue-signaling rich white who loves to pat herself on the back with all these bogus articles about what a wonderful person she is because she is a ‘good white person’ who berates ‘white deplorables’.

Notice how his default position is to defend the existing Republic’s legitimacy and by extension the “Western order” itself for no other reason than fear of change, even though the existing order is based on social liberalism, neo-liberalism, globalization, and genocidal anti-White tyranny.

    Conservatives would defend “order” in South Africa or a new Soviet Union. Just because their job is to conserve whatever exists. They’re paralyzed by their conservative instincts.
