SNN has a podcast about the Florida League’s protest in Bradford County this weekend. The Blaze also has some coverage of this.

“We reject outsiders coming to Florida—especially from outside what we refer to as the Bible Belt—and trying to remake us in their own image,” said Michael Tubbs, state chairman of the Florida League of the South. “We do feel like it’s a stick in the eye to the Christian people of Florida to have these outsiders come down here with their money and their leadership and promote their outside values here.”

Note: IMO, this has less to do with religion than culture. It would never occur to me to go to a place like Vermont and attempt to aggressively impose my own culture there. I don’t see my own culture as the measuring stick for the entire world.

    When pushed they will tell you that while they don’t believe in God they magically believe all humans are equal and that evolution magically stops at the human race. So they do believe in a higher power, the Equality god.

Therefore, at least SOME “southern” whites also became insane all on their own initiative, abandoning the Faith to make short-term profits through African slavery regardless of the great harm it obviously would cause in the long term, and has caused, to all whites both above and below the Line.

    Doesn’t sound like any atheists I know, and I know quite a few. Not one scientist would claim that all humans are equal nor that human evolution has ceased. Indeed it seems to have picked up steadily since the widespread adoption of agriculture.

    Atheism is hardly a matter for concern for many people. I tend to think that religious believers are simply thinking in metaphorical terms and don’t even realize it.

    It’s best to regards “faith and belief” as an inbred behavioral trait of a majority of the human race and study this phenomenon objectively. Hume thought that emotions and belief naturally welled up from the unconscious parts of the mind.

    The most gruesome date I ever went on was when a gal at college dragged me to a folk dancing session held, appropriately enough, in the girl’s gym.

    Every year, for decades now, there is a huge gathering of hundreds of farm families not far from here, where hundreds square dance and folk dance much like that, quite naturally, just as they have all their lives. Some Amish and Mennonites, and Dunkards, have dances in barns much like that. It’s in my blood, at least, to move around like that when hearing the kind of music I love. I never liked Broadway music, jazz, blues, etc. It is important for songs to tell good stories, and need clear vocals. The human voice should always be the leading instrument, if not the only instrument, in my opinion.
