It is about how the war “upended the economic, political, and social life of the old South, utterly destroying the Confederacy and the society it represented and defended” and unleashed “a second American Revolution whose impact on the country was as strong and lasting as that of our first.
How fitting that MLK and Obama have chosen to honor Lincoln as the grandfather of BRA. It was exactly 50 years ago in the summer of 1963 that MLK gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
BRA is synonymous with Lincoln’s Union and the “Second American Revolution” imposed on America by the Northeast during Reconstruction. Likewise, the destruction of BRA is synonymous with the final dissolution of the Union.

A perpetual union is a violation of human rights of self-determination and of association, as Thomas Paine so noted in Common Sense and The Crisis. If a constitution “implies” perpetuity, it is a defect in the constitution.
