The Cost of the Union: Obama Guts “Welfare Reform”

District of Corruption

Thought welfare was gone? Think again.

Note: Don’t count on Mitt Romney to say anything about it.

“The Department and Health and Human Services announced the agency will issue waivers for the federal work requirement of the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program — considered a central facet of welfare reform in 1996 — Thursday.

The “Information Memorandum” states that the agency will be issuing waivers for TANF’s work participation requirements for parents and caretakers as a way to find new approaches to better employment outcomes.

“While the TANF work participation requirements are contained in section 407, section 402(a)(1)(A)(iii) requires that the state plan ‘[e]nsure that parents and caretakers receiving assistance under the program engage in work activities in accordance with section 407,’” the memo, signed by HHS Director of the Office of Family Assistance, Earl Johnson, explained. “Thus, HHS has authority to waive compliance with this 402 requirement and authorize a state to test approaches and methods other than those set forth in section 407, including definitions of work activities and engagement, specified limitations, verification procedures, and the calculation of participation rates.” . . .

According to Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, the memorandum is proof of the Obama administration’s continued disrespect for the rule of law.

“President Obama just tore up a basic foundation of the welfare contract,” Jordan said in a statement. “In exchange for taxpayer-funded TANF payments, the law calls on able-bodied adults to work, look for work, take classes, or undergo drug and alcohol counseling. It’s the tough love that gives people motivation to help themselves…Today’s action is also a blatant violation of the law. After immigration, education, marriage, and religious conscience protections, we can now add welfare reform to the list of laws President Obama refuses to follow.”

  1. The schmoozies are also playing the classic western, ” I Shot Jesse James” today on TCM. Outlaws, shoot-outs, more outlaws, more shoot-outs, stuff like that : Action-Packed, Fun : Classic Stuff.
Check your local listings for time.
    Screen Guild Productions: 1949

  2. I don’t usually care for Westerns. Watched a marvelous film “Oscar Wilde” last night though. Robert Morley was the star. Most of the film was just brilliant. but the ending was really strange.

  3. Don’t count on Mitt Romney to say anything about it.

Obama does a lot of damage using executive orders and other executive powers. But, Eric Holder’s Justice department is the true tip of Obama’s spear. Unfortunately, Holder isn’t doing anything Romney’s AG would not also do. Has Romney ever said he would not have sued Arizona?

  4. Welfare wasn’t really reformed with the 1996 act. It did replace AFDC with TANF and set a five-year time limit and work requirements (now gutted) with TANF. But…between the WF 1996 act and 9/11, SSI was the fastest growing Federal budget line item, and it’s growing quickly again.

Obviously, what happened is that AFDC-TANF clients migrated to SSI, using their kids’ “retardation” (I thought there was no such thing as racial differences in IQ) as the “disability.” I think Clinton knew that would happen, and he never would have signed WF unless he knew SSI was there to “save the day.” Plus signing it helped him get re-elected.

  5. Obama wants Romney to protest so democrats can paint him as an uncaring meanie. That is pretty much the extent of the left’s stance on everything. We need to do X because we feel sorry for little Suzietatatatushavonte’s troubles. If you disagree you are a heartless/racist/moneylicking evil old whitey.

There is no longer any debate on anything. It is just a verbal contest over who can frame their position better as a race or empathy issue so that those who disagree can be called names and have thugs show up at their house and place of business demanding their head and the head of anybody associated with them.

Yes, that is the truth. One of the reasons S.S. is in trouble is that many millions are taking advantage of the system. I personally know of a negro who receives S.S. payments in the vicinity of 800.00 per month. In and out of jail his entire life for habitual criminality. Fathered a slew of chillun from several women. A thieving, dope dealing slug in and out of rehab. Has no intention of quitting, it’s part of the game.

Oh, but the poor fella is diagnosed as having ADHD. Gets a nice gov. check every month, knows all the angles. BET cards, a bunch of other goodies.

Many retirees, model citizens have worked their entire lives for very low wages and don’t get as much as he does.

  7. BET card, how appropriate. Why don’t we all start bartering and vastly undervaluing the items traded. Cloward-Piven strategy, no? Without wealth there is only so much fiat currency can accomplish.

  8. As I pointed out during the GOP debates, Romney will be too worried about the effects that riots would have on the stock markets to do anything that might anger the niggers.

If you don’t like welfare, then you should have supported Newt. The number of people who were on welfare was cut by well over 50% in the years following the bold legislation he pushed down the throat of a Democrat president.

Oh, yeah, now I remember why. You were all looking for the candidate that wouldn’t kiss Jew ass. How did that work out for you?

  9. Yes, I love those Westerns. It’s a man’s world.

~~The dirty little coward that shot Mr. Howard has laid poor Jesse in his grave.~~

  10. >>>Why don’t we all start bartering and vastly undervaluing the items traded.<<>>Without wealth there is only so much fiat currency can accomplish.>>>

Busting the money monopoly is task number uno, before expelling all muds. Fiat can accomplish zilch without wealth. Holding wealth back from non-Whites is imperative.

  11. Actual post didn’t make it:

  12. This part was taken out. Following “items traded”:

Sell items for pre-1965 silver coins. List the revenue at face value. A one-dollar sale in such coins (at face value!) would be worth around $20 in today’s money. Record one dollar. Pay workers in such coins- although that would violate minimum wage laws. An independent contractor could accept the silver coins with no concern for minimum wages.

I did support Newt and the Republican’s ‘Contract with America.’
Newt got full of himself and veered way off track in subsequent years and got on board the Neo-Con express.

Playing Roots Backwards says: “You were all looking for the candidate that wouldn’t kiss Jew ass. How did that work out for you?”

Kissing jew ass? Google Newt Gingrich and Zionist Sheldon Adelson to learn about jew ass kissing.

  14. @George
It’s true: Jesse didn’t have it as good as the other cowboys. Clint did alright for himself in “The Good, The Bad, The Ugly” though . Let’s try to look at the overall picture here. “Mr. Howard” was a anomaly. Think Shane dude : Not “Mr. Howard”.

  15. Many retirees, model citizens have worked their entire lives for very low wages and don’t get as much as he does….”

Even now, many Americans are either too creative, (focused on their own productivity), too honest (how all the others get so much stuff never even occurs to them), or struggling too hard (“kept scrambling”) to notice that.

But few still think “meritocracy” exists, except Hannity and people who want to feel their success is proof of their own moral quality— but some do think they can out-pace it, that the system, ultimately, still has the interests of honest, hard-workers at heart.

Did you always notice a preponderance of high-end vehicles all around you driven by people who couldn’t speak English? Carloads of tattooed ear ringed foreigners with five kids in expensive sneakers, in line with whites who couldn’t afford families? Meeting “moral” whites who were “vegetarians” but probably just because they couldn’t afford fish and meat?

Or was it a slow realization?

  16. the barter system is pretty damn ineffective.

I have 300 acres of soy beans to sell; what are you going to trade of equal value that holds wealth or is a product I need?

Let’s reduce that to I have a house to rent out?. What non perishable goods and services valuing the monthly rent do you have to trade, every month for the term of the contract?

Lets reduce it even further. I have a a bushel of peaches to sell. What non perishable goods and services valuing a bushel of peaches do you have to trade? or a dozen eggs, or side of beef or what have you

I engage in a fair amount of barter. It’s easy, unofficial stuff with friends and family. I’m n0t sure how or if it would work or on a medium to large scale. Or with strangers. Are you going to haul a trailer full of things you think are valuable to my place to buy peaches or eggs only to find out you have nothing I think is worth the trade? Hugely inefficient on time as well as goods

You could certainly use junk silver and I’d prefer it over paper money since I convert all the FRN’s I can into real wealth. You’d save me some work. The value of the silver content is easy to find, its an app on my iphone. But you buy junk silver for more than its metal content, I wouldn’t have any idea what that is and would insist on using the melt value. That means you’re losing a little money per trade. No big deal for the once and awhile, but it would added up over years. You couldn’t do that on a lot of products because the govt and other vendors would go after the seller for price manipulation and what not. Also I can see folks wanting to claim a very worn 1/2 dollar is worth less then one in better shape because metal content is missing.

  17. TabuLa Raza:

I just purchased a small bag of pre-1965 dimes. The smelt value is at $2 each. If you have one of these dimes try this out. Bounce it off of a wooden table and then bounce a modern dime in the same manner. Check out the difference in sound. You may notice that the sound from the silver dime is what they still use in media (movies, tv, etc).

  18. The Irish in antigity used to call their currency the equivalent of
“virgin” or “young wench”. So if you were at the slave market on the Liffey (Dublin) and you were offered a virgin as payment you might end up with ten pigs, or three cows. Or a nubile redhead.

Three cows per wench. And so on down…

I do not know what a nigger would have been worth in that monetized slave system.

  19. Sam,

Yeah, of course Newt kisses Jew ass. Every candidate who has ran in a general election since WW2 was wildly proficient at tonguing Hebrew sphincter. That’s what anybody who is grounded in reality knows and expects. What you have to look for is what a candidate will do BESIDES kiss Jew asses.

Newt shoved welfare reform through a reluctant Republican-controlled congress, a Democrat-controlled senate and down Slick Willy’s throat when he wasn’t busy catering to his Jewish financial supporters.

Rick Perry calls company reps all over the world every morning to offer them incentives to move to Texas. He probably spends his afternoons performing the Hindlick maneuver on Sol and Moe, but we at least get half a day out of him.

The other folks who ran in the primaries haven’t done much that I can point out, but you can bet that they spent a bunch of just-in-case Sheeny bucks on their campaigns.

By the way, Newt resigned shortly after his reforms went into effect, so I don’t know what you mean about his veering off track in subsequent years. I suspect that you are one of the many who never paid a damn bit of attention to how the country was being ran until we hit political rock bottom with a goddamn nigger in the White House.

  20. I too thought newt starting tracking to left when he left congress. Started buying to global warming in the like. I thought he did at anyrate

  21. Playing Roots Backwards says:
    Sam,

“I suspect that you are one of the many who never paid a damn bit of attention to how the country was being ran until we hit political rock bottom with a goddamn nigger in the White House.”

Your suspicion is wrong. Was introduced to and intrigued by John Birch Society materials at first, then in the mid seventies someone gave me a copy of the ‘Spotlight’ a Liberty Lobby newspaper produced by Willis Carto and began to search deeper for answers to troubling questions. Studied the origens of communism, talmudism, civil rights organizations and many other subversive influences along that line and finally put the pieces together.

I learned of George Lincoln Rockwell, a man I greatly admire who was assassinated. I believe he was genuine, honest and incredibly courageous. And no, I am not NS nor do I think it wise to go down that road. He took the only route he thought was available to him at the time to create maximim impact.

Received Ron Paul’s newletters decades ago, long before he began bad mouthing WNs and got weepy eyed for Negroes.

Was inspired by Pat Buchanan, grabbed a pitchfork as it were and went door to door for him distributing campaign literature.

I could go on, but you should catch my drift by now.

  22. Sam,

I am pleased to hear that my suspicions were wrong. I came down a similar road. Back in the seventies I got all of my contrary political views from newsletters and books I ordered from Loompanics Unlimited.
