The vast majority of Americans have no cultural identity beyond mindless consumerism. In the mainstream media, observe how they are typically referred to now as consumers, not citizens. Their lives consist of work and consumption at the nearest Wal-Mart and Target, followed by more work and more consumption, in an endless cycle, punctuated by evenings in front of the television set. A people who will sell out the merchant class of their own communities in exchange for cheaper manufactured goods aren’t about to care about their race, ethnicity, class interest or anything beyond themselves. Nothing will change until this fundamental pattern is seriously disrupted.
